HostDepartment

I have looked through the forum and see that hostdepartment had some issues before. Is anyone using them now and how would you rate their reseller program? Any info on them, would be great.
Thanks

What, in all the threads about HD's lack of ethics, makes you think they've changed? Do you really think they've changed how they operate in the six months since their most recent horrible review? Do you really think a host that's been operating without any ethics for several years, is capable of wholesale change, or is worth taking a chance on with your money?
I shouldn't comment here as I, personally, have no experience with this host. I'm making an exception, because I'm blown away that anyone could search for that host here and start a thread asking if they're really that bad, or even still be considering them. If all those warnings aren't enough to keep you away from a host, then by all means sign up. If you need reassurance, just wait for one of their shills to respond to this thread with how great a company they are.
Why not give your money to a host with an ethical background, instead of taking a chance on one that's proven to be so dubious?

Try these two Google searches:
http://www.google.com/search?q=sagacloud+development
http://www.google.com/search?q=pillsneed
They don't look shady at all, neither do their 'doorway pages' hosted at HD:
http://free.hostdepartment.com/h/hydropharm
http://free.hostdepartment.com/p/phentermine2/
http://free.hostdepartment.com/P/Paxil/
HostDepartment is complicit in many many many of these search-engine-spamming scams. These 'customers' of theirs, I'm sure, only look like spammers but are really hardworking, on the level folks.
It just doesn't take very much effort to find that HD is in the business of hosting the scams people run, and helping with their Search Engine spamming. I'm sure this is a lucrative business and all, but if you are looking to start a legitimate hosting business as a reseller, I'd suggest looking past HD.

mdevinc,
I have not found anything more out on HD but I will state that I am leaning toward Jodohost who has more to offer for about the same price.

Thanks for the replies.
Below is the list I am currently looking at hard:
Jodohost.com
DIYhosting.com
I am pretty sure I want a host that can do windows and linux, which means only hsphere as the control panel, unless I have 2 seperate panels.
DIY is a little higher than what I want to spend now, as I need to build my customers first. Maybe I can switch later if I want from one hsphere to another with no problems.
I was looking at hostdepartment before I knew about all the problems. I am so glad I found this site, you guys have a wealth of knowledge here. HD offered the template for a corporate web site with all the text built right in. Hostgator does this too, but they are only linux hosting. I have customers that want windows hosting with Access databases. The template for that would get me up and running quick so I wouldn't have to worry about building that right away.
Jodohost looks like the best bet for me now because it has everything I want, support for my customers if I want, I think it has a ticket system built into hsphere I can use, windows and linux hosting, enough space and bandwidth to last for a while, and the standard options that come with it.
I am past HD now. I want nothing to do with them. I just wish some other hosts would offer a corporate template like they and hostgator do.

Mdevinc,
What do you mean by a 'corporate template'?
Glad to see you are past HD. If I am not mistaken, the two you are now looking at have pretty good reps.

Corporate templates are ways to get a reseller up and running quickly because it has everything in a template form so we would just have to change the plan names and costs.
Hostgator does this.
HostDepartment does this also.
I can't post links because I don't have 5 posts, but when I do I will post the links to the site pages.

You could just use the same templates with another hosting provider, or contact the the host's and ask if it would be possible to use them as they are usually freely available anyway.

What exactly would I ask for from the host? I asked a few already and they said they had nothing like that available.

Hosts don't necessarily specialise in providing templates. You can go with any host, and buy a template from a place like templatemonster.com. It'll cost you a few dollars, but you can go with the host of your choice (and get the template of your choice).

Hi mdevinc,
You could simply contact the host providing the templates you wish to use and ask whether these are freely available for use, or whether you need to purchase them.
If the host states they are free, you can clearly ask if they are copyrighted to the host, or can they be used with any host? And you should then have your answer on whether you can use the templates with another provider.
As already outlined by ldcdc, most hosts dont actually provide templates, you usually have to buy them or have them created from a developer. But look around, there are plenty of freely available templates you can use to get started without having to spend any money.

Hi there all..
Not that I'm on the HD side. But yeah ... they do have some serious problem on their Problem Solving SOP.
Their admin aren't always available during the whole weekends. And their CS aren't also provide much help when it comes to server issue.
Their recent problem is one of their SQL server is down for the whole week !!!
Although when I looked at their entire system technology and features. They do have A solid and awesome servers line up.
More than 30servers with half of them are Blade with Xeon Quad processors.
Their CS Livechat are actually doing GOOD with customers. It's just the SOP for handling server issues !!
Everything else would have been great if they able to fix that.
Well if you're looking for a fully automated, choices win/unix, Greate Control Panel system, and true 24 hours Livechat. You can go with HD.
They have some reasonable yet fantastic price also.
Rgrds.
